Shawn Michaels on why Roman Reigns kept first leukaemia battle secret
We witnessed a heartbreaking announcement from Roman Reigns. That announcement was Reigns being diagnosed with Leukemia & will be relinquishing his title to fight against it.
This announcement came out of nowhere for whole WWE Universe & almost for the whole WWE roster & peoples working backstage.
Former WWE Universal Champion back home after relinquishing his title to fight against Leukemia. A disease with Roman Reigns was living for about 11 years & it’s back, He has taken the leave of absence, from WWE till he completely fights Leukemia.
It will be a long, Very long time until we will see Roman Reigns back in the WWE ring. Though he would not appear in WWE, his appearance is announced for ACE Comic Con Arizona on Friday, January 11, 2019. He will be the one of the WWE Superstars for ACE Comic-Con along Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Lilian Garcia.
As noted HBK told ComicBook that Roman Reigns refused to use his illness to gain sympathy from the crowds that quite often booed his performances.
He said: “To understand that that’s something he’s fought through before, that was a revelation I don’t think anyone knew about.
“It’s encouraging on one hand, but it helps you understand and get to know him.
“He could have used that to help in the wrestling business to help him ‘get over’ but that was something the human being, who he is, the real-life person didn’t want to do that he just wanted to put that behind him, go on his own merit, go on his own ability and be judged on that.
“And that speaks to the real character behind that young man.”
Michaels added that the sports-entertainment world he and his colleagues live means they are able to be big kids almost all of the time.
The four-time world champion said: “It’s someone in your line work, a person that you know, a person that you understand is a leader of this locker room, a leader of this generation, a role that once you have played or have seen other people play and understanding that that guy is going through something tough.
“And for us, that’s when it gets real.
“We live in a constant world of make-believe, and on one hand, it’s the greatest thing in the world because it allows none of us to have to grow up and become adults.
“Every now and then real life comes in and throws you something in your face that makes you understand that real life does happen.
“And also to appreciate the time that we have with each other.”
