Why Mithali Raj Was Dropped From Women’s World T20 Semi Final?
Mithali Raj is one of the strongest batswomen India had. She played a crucial role in Indian Women’s cricket but missed a role in Women’s World T20 Semi Final against Australia. Of course, She was pulled out of that role.
As per Times of India, the Indian (women’s) team manager Trupti Bhattacharya has made some strong allegation against the selector Sudha Shah. As per Trupti’s report, Sudha Shah backed the move of Mithali Raj’s exclusion from the playing XI for the semi-final game against England.
“I, as manager, convened the meeting. They (captain, coach, and selector) discussed the wicket and the coach expressed that the same winning combination against Australia should play. Harman and Smriti shared the same view and also told the selector, Sudha Shah, that an extra bowler would help the team. Sudha Shah agreed to the XI and did not express anything,” read Trupti Bhattacharya’s report.
Excluding Mithali Raj went a way wrong for Team India. England women’s thrashed Indian Women’s with 8 wickets in hand while chasing down the score of 112. Team India was 29-3 at one point but ended 112-10.
“Whatever we decided, we decided for the team. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, no regrets. I’m proud of the way my girls played through the tournament,” Harmanpreet Kaur said in the post-match presentation.
Whatever or from whomever the call is, it went terribly wrong. Changing the playing XI at this crucial stage is not expected, no team would prefer to do something like that in a World Cup Tournament.
