Virat Kohli Was Behind Anile Kumble’s Departure
Indian Women’s Cricket team saga of coach Ramesh Powar is been in the headlines since Women’s T20 World Cup. It is speculated that Mithali Raj’s benching was all call from the coach himself. It is also noted that there wasn’t a good relationship between them.
This all story led to the evacuation of Ramesh Powar as the head coach of Indian Women’s team. Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana backed coach Ramesh Powar to be reappointed. Vinod Rai interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) players cannot have a say in the matters of coach’s selection.
Diana Edulji the fellow BCCI administration panel apposed Vinod Rai’s statement of not having a player’a say. An email by Diana Edulji to Vinod Rai, accessed by ESPNCricinfo, suggests that ‘rules were broken’ to appoint Ravi Shastri as Kumble’s successor to the job.
“Virat did not accede to Kumble continuing in spite of CAC saying so then why not these two players get what they feel is best for the team. They were truthful in expressing their views, unlike Virat who frequently sent SMS’s to the CEO on which you acted and there was a change in the Coach”, Edulji stated in the mail.
Edulji highlighted Virat Kohli was the one behind the appointment of coach Ravi Shastri. She further added that Anil Kumble was portrayed as the villain.
“There also I had objected and my dissent is recorded when the timelines were extended for someone to apply as he didn’t apply in time. Mr. Kumble a legend in his own right was subjected to loss of face and made to look like a villain, he was gracious enough to move on for which I respect him,” Edulji stated.
“There also, rules were broken and I had raised objections back then”, Diana Edulji she added.
