The Jordan-Butler Debate: Is Jimmy Butler Related to Michael Jordan?
For as long as Jimmy Butler continues to play at the top of his game in the 2023 NBA playoffs, he will be linked to Michael Jordan. While the notion that he is Jordan’s ‘long lost son’ is absurd, the similarities between the two are undeniable. Both men of African American descent, they share similar facial features, such as strong jawlines and characteristically similar noses.
Michael Jordan’s Sons: Jeffrey and Marcus
Michael Jordan’s two sons, Jeffrey and Marcus, have not made it to the NBA, leading some to question why anyone else carrying the Jordan gene pool would make it. Butler, however, grew up facing adversity and had to fight to earn his spot in the NBA after being kicked out of his home at the age of 13.
Michael Jordan and Jimmy Butler: Side by Side Comparison
When comparing a close up of Michael Jordan’s face to that of Jimmy Butler’s, the resemblance is striking. Butler has also rocked different hairstyles throughout his career, from dreads to braids, while Jordan has mostly kept his hair short or bald. However, Butler used to rock the same haircut as Michael Jordan in 1984 during his rookie season in 2011.
The Atlanta Link
Jimmy Butler was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 14th, 1989. While some have argued that considering Michael lived in Chicago, he could not be Butler’s father, they have overlooked the fact that the Chicago Bulls played the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta exactly nine months prior to Butler’s birth. On January 10th, 1989, the Bulls won the game 104-101, with Jordan scoring 48 points.
No confirmation has been made on either side regarding the theory that Jimmy Butler is related to Michael Jordan. However, every time the Miami Heat superstar plays well, the theory resurfaces. With Butler continuing to dominate the 2023 NBA Playoffs, it is likely that these theories will continue to circulate.
