The BCCI’s decision to pull star player Jasprit Bumrah from the ODI series against Sri Lanka set up a social media meme frenzy. A number of Men in Blue supporters responded to the news of Jasprit Bumrah on Twitter with amusing jokes and memes.

No Bumrah in ODI series vs Sri Lanka.
Good step, suppose if he get injured how he play IPL. Who play tinipod international match, IPL is top most priority. Money is important.
Winning IPL trophy is most important than winning World Cup.
Very good step #INDvSL #Bumrah

After the India cricket board abruptly decided to drop him from the ODI series against Sri Lanka, the Ahmedabad-born bowler was mocked on social media. Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t initially selected for the national team to play Sri Lanka in one-day internationals, but the selection committee eventually recommended his inclusion.
“Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience.
This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not named any replacement for Jasprit Bumrah,” the BCCI stated in a press release on Monday.
Just 24 hours before the Sri Lanka series began in Guwahati, Jasprit Bumrah‘s decision to withdraw shocked supporters of the national team. Many questioned his dedication to the Team India uniform and claimed that he was unfaithful to the national anthem before claiming that he was just interested in advancing his career with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In September of last year, during a domestic T20I series against Australia, Jasprit Bumrah made his final appearance for the Indian cricket squad. He was therefore unable to compete in the T20 World Cup due to a stress fracture in his back. The Rohit Sharma-led Team India, which lost to the eventual winners by 10 wickets in his absence, was eliminated from the competition in the semifinals.
His absence is seen as a severe setback to the Men in Blue’s fast bowling unit because he is widely recognized as the best all-format bowler in the world.
Considering Jasprit Bumrah’s special action allows him to exert extra bounce from the pitch with the new ball in addition to having the ability to confuse batters with his toe-breaking yorkers at the end, the 29-year-old would have given captain Rohit Sharma a genuine wicket-taking option both up front and in the death overs.
But this isn’t the first time Jasprit Bumrah has drawn criticism online.
The Ahmedabad-born speedster was disqualified from the premier competition in Australia last year, just weeks before the T20 World Cup, which drew harsh condemnation from Team India supporters.
Some mocked the Mumbai Indians bowler for skipping the most important T20 international competition, while others contended that if it had been the Indian Premier League (IPL), he would have managed to stay in shape anyhow.
The under-fire pacer was defended by Rohit Sharma, who asserted that the 29-year-old has been working incredibly hard to improve his condition at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. However, the management is unable to rush him because doing so could be harmful to his career, as has been seen in the past.
The BCCI rushed him to play in a few T20Is in 2022, only weeks before the T20 World Cup in Australia, but the outcome wasn’t positive for the national squad because his ailment reappeared. In the end, his name was not on the team that took off for Australia.
“It’s an unfortunate incident with him [Bumrah],” Rohit Sharma told reporters ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. “The poor guy had been working very hard at the NCA all this time.
Just when he got back to full fitness, he started bowling and everything, the last two days I think this incident happened where he felt a little bit of stiffness in his back. It’s nothing major, it’s just stiffness. [But] when Bumrah says anything we have to be very cautious about it.
I thought it was important for us to make that decision then, to just pull him out. When we named him [in the squad], he was in the process of getting his workload done. We need to be very careful with him. He had a major injury before the [T20] World Cup. So we just need to be careful.”
Irfan Pathan, a former speedster for India, expressed skepticism about Jasprit Bumrah’s ability to return to the national squad with any degree of success.
“Look I’m very sceptical about Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback, I’m hoping that he will not have an injury effect on his bowling. But I really hope that he is fully fit, more than 100 per cent fit, which is what I want to look at because a player like Bumrah, is very important to the Indian team,” Irfan Pathan told Star Sports.
“For him to play consistently and remain fit is of utmost importance because to find a player of his quality is very rare, so to manage him and for him to manage his body and to keep his fitness levels on top as well as to keep his mind on recovering from his stress injury and go under rehabilitation, and to continue to grow and move forward as a cricketer is of vital importance not only to Bumrah but for the team management as well,” he concluded.
