Riot Games Pays Tribute to Valorant GC Player Gizem ‘Luie’ Harmankaya with a Player Title in Her Honor
Riot Games has paid tribute to the late Gizem “Luie” Harmankaya, a professional Valorant player, in the new Battlepass. A Community Manager for Riot Games, Jo Ellen Aragon, revealed the title card, ‘Gizem’, which unlocks at Tier 5 for free, was created to honor Luie.
Tragedy in the Valorant Community
On February 6th, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey, and with it, the death of Luie. Despite her friends informing the authorities, she was unfortunately neglected. Luie was a member of the professional Valorant scene and had competed with teams such as Galakticos, Unknownpros, and Vivace Vista. Her passing was confirmed on 8th February, making her the first player in the history of Valorant to be immortalized with a title card.
Tribute to Luie
Many Valorant EMEA pros and coaches paid tribute to Luie after the news of her passing. The player title card serves as a reminder of the tragedy that occurred, and is a way for players to honor her memory. Players can equip the card to spread awareness about her death and show their respect for the life she lived.
