In an effort to level the playing field, Formula One began enforcing its budget cap laws in 2021. Red Bull and Aston Martin were the two teams that exceeded the limit towards the end of the thrilling F1 season, despite the fact that the new rule still needed some work. The two teams were the first to be slaughtered, so it was time to find out what the penalty would be.

After much discussion, Aston Martin was penalized $450,000 for improperly adjusting expenses; Red Bull, on the other hand, was caught in the thick of the controversy. Rivals were itching for blood after the 2021 driver’s champion had a commanding lead in the 2022 season. This appetite went unquenched as FIA fined the team a pitiful $7 million and limited its access to the wind tunnel.

Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari had banded together for something far bigger, and it was a rather reasonable punishment for what was purported to be hospitality expenditures. Reduced points, disqualification—whatever it takes to knock the leaders off the top. No one was thus content.

Now that they have seen the team budgets for the 2022 season, the sport’s power players may blame the FIA for driving them crazy.

The very straightforward penalties given suggest that teams may have overlooked the gravity of the budget cap and instead chosen to simply accept the fee. Stefano Domenicali is concerned about this.

Everyone seems to be aware of the consequences of a breach by this point, and I completely concur that attention will be paid to it. Domenicali is concerned that the waiting period is excessive because the deadline passed on March 31.

Red Bull compounds Domenicali’s concerns. According to Christian Horner, some teams said they wouldn’t be able to handle the extraordinary inflation and would break the regulations as a result during an F1 Commission meeting last year.

Horner remarked, There is a risk that numerous teams, many of which have said it during F1 commission meetings, would exceed the cap this year, which might result in six teams exceeding the cap in 2022.

Helmut Marko supported his associate. It was not possible to calculate inflation to that level, particularly when it came to energy prices. Their investigation did not, however, remove Red Bull from the danger zone.

Horner acknowledged earlier this year that they ought to be comfortably inside the budgetary restrictions. However, you can never be really certain. Teams are attempting to get past the new financial laws, which continue to be an uncommon conundrum. Six teams is a significant amount. We can only wait and watch as the analysis gets underway to see what effects this widespread disease has.
