In the second quarter, Oliver was hurt when the Rams took a risk on fourth down. After limping off the field on the second drive of the third quarter, he eventually returned. Picked ninth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Oliver is a crucial member of the defensive line for the Bills, who were the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl.
Here's the #Bills Ed Oliver right ankle injury.
As seen from many angles, has to cut back hard to his right to catch Cooper Kupp, wraps him up & then pile on top of him.
Initially looked to be a medial ankle sprain based on mechanism. 1/ pic.twitter.com/RxojZe3W17

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic stated that Oliver was seen leaving the game in a walking boot. For Bill’s past season, Oliver recorded 41 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble. The score of the game was 31–10 in favor of the Bills.
In 2016, Oliver’s true freshman year at Houston, he was thrust into the starting lineup. In the regular season, he played in all 12 games, making 60 tackles and five sacks. He became the first freshman to ever win the Bill Willis Trophy after being named the winner.
By Oliver’s sophomore year (2017), he had already earned the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman in the country and been named to the Walter Camp All-America first team. After Oliver’s junior year in 2018, he opted to forego his final year of high school and instead prepare for the 2019 NFL Draft.
In week 7 against the Miami Dolphins, Oliver recorded his first career sack on Ryan Fitzpatrick in a 31-21 win. In week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day, Oliver recorded two sacks on quarterback Dak Prescott, including a strip sack recovered by teammate Trent Murphy that set up a Bills touchdown in a 26-15 victory. For his outstanding effort in Dallas, Oliver was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. He had a total of 43 tackles and 5 sacks in his debut campaign.
