Lewis Cine Injury

After suffering a fractured left leg on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, rookie safety Lewis Cine of the Minnesota Vikings will have surgery in London, according to to head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Until his medical condition improves enough for him to fly, Cine will stay in the United Kingdom.

O’Connell, who announced Cine’s injury with 1:08 left in the first quarter of the Vikings’ 28-25 victory, choked up as he spoke. When blocking on a punt return, Cine’s leg bent awkwardly on the artificial turf that replaces the grass at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during NFL games.

After receiving an air cast, Cine was quickly carted off the field.

A very difficult time for our team,” O’Connell remarked. “Cine has been a guy I’ve liked from the beginning, and he’s been very helpful in carrying out all of our requests. In his first season, he had already made significant strides and played an instrumental role in our success on special teams.”

As the Vikings’ first-round draught pick this year, Cine was slowed by a knee injury during training camp and the first few games of the season. Apart from his role on special teams, he had played only two defensive snaps.
