Tua Tagovailoa Injury

Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, had a frightening injury for the second time in as many days. A stretcher was used to remove him this time, and he was transferred to the hospital.

While passing backward, Tagovailoa was sacked by Cincinnati defensive lineman Josh Tupou in the second quarter of Miami’s 27-15 loss to the Bengals. Tagovailoa was thrown to the floor by Tupou and landed heavily. Tagovailoa remained on the ground, and fencing-like finger locks could be seen on Amazon Prime Video cameras when he responded.

When Tagovailoa fell, his left elbow, back, and helmet all made contact with the ground. Concerned looks came from both teams as he remained on the ground for several minutes. His condition was stabilized on a stretcher and he was removed from the scene.

The Dolphins reportedly said Tagovailoa suffered head and neck injuries and was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to a report from Amazon Prime Video broadcasting the game.

Later in the fourth quarter, Amazon said Tagovailoa will be released from the hospital that night and return to Miami with the rest of the team. Tagovailoa left Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills after collapsing from a strong hit. Tagovailoa played the whole second half despite a concussion probe being launched by the NFLPA, which the team claimed was a back issue.

Tagovailoa, who got the Dolphins off to a strong start this season with a 3-0 record until Thursday’s setback, was benched in favor of Teddy Bridgewater. After the first half, veteran NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez said, “I’ve never seen anything like it, the way the hands went,” on the set of the Amazon Prime Video telecast.

Similarly, longtime NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was also a part of the Amazon halftime set, remarked, “That’s one of the toughest scenes I think I’ve ever seen.”
