Dorka Juhàsz

The UConn women’s basketball team is unable to recover after losing yet another player to injuries. The 6-foot-5 forward Dorka Juh Sz fractured her thumb and will miss at least three games, according to the program. After only three games, UConn’s roster now only has eight players that are actively playing.

Paige Bueckers (torn ACL) and Ice Brady (dislocated patella), who was ruled out before the team’s first tipoff, did not start the season for the Huskies.

When Brady’s season was declared over, UConn coach Geno Auriemma remarked, “Anytime any player has an injury, it’s really upsetting because they put so much time and effort into being the best player they can be.” It’s awful when that’s taken away since they can’t play no matter how long they’re out.

UConn’s injury

Auriemma has talked about how crucial it was for Azzi Fudd to take over as the star after Bueckers was injured. She led UConn to a 2-0 record and an improvement in the Associated Press rankings, demonstrating that she is the team’s x-factor (moved from No. 5 to No. 4).

Before the season, Fudd told The Athletic, “They instructed us to build our own legacy. Do you look up to this individual or compare yourself to that team? is a question I frequently get asked. And I most certainly did. But it opened my eyes to hear them say that. Although they set fantastic standards and objectives, this is our team. It’s our group.

Fudd has lived up to the anticipation since Auriemma challenged her to that. But losing Juh sz before UConn’s game against No. 10 NC State will be a blow that even Fudd’s skill on the floor can’t compensate for. The Huskies’ frontcourt consists of only junior Aaliyah Edwards, senior Aubrey Griffin, and freshmen Ayanna Patterson and Amari DeBerry.
