The ongoing controversy surrounding Carlos Correa’s offseason appears to have taken yet another bizarre turn. Despite delayed negotiations with the New York Mets, sources tell Dan Hayes and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic that the Minnesota Twins and Correa have made headway toward the All-Star shortstop’s likely return to the team he last played for in the major leagues.

The Twins are unexpectedly back in the running to sign the free-agent shortstop now that the mega-deal he signed with the New York Mets last month is still in limbo. On Monday, two club sources said that the Twins and Correa’s negotiations have picked up speed. The development was also confirmed by a different major-league source.

When the Mets and Carlos Correa reached an agreement on a 12-year, $315 million contract last month, it appeared as though they had already secured Correa’s talents. However, the deal is still pending owing to Correa’s medical.

One of Major League Baseball’s top free-agent objectives heading into the offseason was Carlos Correa, but it’s already 2023 and he still doesn’t have a team to play for. Given that the Twins are expressing more than a passing interest in Correa, it is unlikely that he will be unsigned for an extended period of time.
