Liam Hendriks

Liam Hendriks has earned two of his most recent three All-Star nods while playing for the Chicago White Sox. The star closer, though, seems to have been made tradeable at this year’s Winter Meetings by the South Siders.

As teams try to restructure their rosters, Hendriks’ name has reportedly been mentioned in trade discussions. The All-Star closer is under the team’s control for $14 million through 2023, and a $15 million club option is available for 2024. But that option would be guaranteed if Hendriks were traded.

Although Hendriks may be available, only five teams are now in the running to sign him due to his limited no-trade clause. If a team were to sign him, they would be getting Liam Hendriks, who has developed into one of the MLB’s top closers. Hendriks has participated in 471 games in his 12-year career. His career K/BB ratio is 724/158, and his ERA is 3.81. Hendriks has 115 saves in his career.

The White Sox closer just completed a good campaign with 58 games played, 37 saves, and a 2.81 ERA. In addition, he only gave up 16 walks while striking out 85 batters. His campaign came to a close with a second consecutive All-Star nomination.

Chicago finished the previous campaign 11 games down from the NL Central champion Cleveland Guardians with an overall record of 81-81. By signing starting pitcher Mike Clevinger, they created a big impression even before the Winter Meeting.

In the hopes that the return deal will enhance the present and future of baseball on the South Side, the White Sox now seem at least willing to transfer their closer.
