On Sunday, the Dallas Mavericks presented a statue of Dirk Nowitzki outside the American Airlines Arena as a magnificent tribute to him. The Mavs’ Christmas Day match against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers was a perfect opportunity to honor the best player in the team’s history.

At this point in his career, Dirk said that he looked up to LeBron. Even Nowitzki, who is 38 years old, cannot envision doing some of the things James is doing in his 20th season with the Mavericks: Nowitzki remarks, “I’m in awe of what he did in Year 20.” In Year 20, the team was essentially pushing me up and down in a wheelbarrow.

Actually, that’s hilarious. Fair enough to say that during his 20th season with the Mavs, Dirk was still largely productive. In 24.7 minutes per game, he averaged 12.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.8 triples with a 40.9 percent success rate.

 LeBron James

LeBron, on the other hand, is currently averaging 27.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.2 triples per game on 49.3 percent shooting from the field.

However, the Lakers are suffering yet another disappointing season. Even LeBron’s heroics haven’t been sufficient to lift this squad above.500. But for Dirk, LeBron James‘ decision to stay in Los Angeles demonstrates his fidelity and dedication to the cause:

According to Nowitzki, it requires staying the course and not quitting when things get difficult. It’s part of the gig that [James] decided to stay there and make it work. You have to persevere through some difficult periods and figure out how to apply your experience to improve the issue. It goes without saying that Dirk Nowitzki is an expert on this subject because he has knowledge of loyalty.
