When the Philadelphia 76ers play home to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night, there is a lot of excitement surrounding Ben Simmons’ return to his old haunt. It should come as no surprise that Sixers supporters are eagerly anticipating Simmons’ homecoming because it will be the first time he has played in Philadelphia since he forced his way off the team last season.
With regard to his former player’s homecoming, Doc Rivers has already spoken out, and the head coach of the Sixers was brutally honest in his remarks:
It’ll be that kind of atmosphere because our fans will be our fans whatever, Rivers stated, as reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Noah Levick. We don’t want Ben to continue playing well because he is already doing so well.
Particularly at the end of his Sixers stint, there was a lot of talk about Simmons’ connection with Rivers. Many people think that one of the primary factors in Ben’s refusal to play for the Sixers was Rivers’ remarks made during Philly’s playoff loss in 2021. However, it appears that they have already resolved their issues, so this is all “water under the bridge.”
Whatever the case, Doc Rivers will use every effort to have Simmons have a bad game against the Sixers. As he previously stated, the former Rookie of the Year has been on quite the rampage lately, and nothing would please Sixers supporters more than to witness Ben Simmons lose it in front of them. Even Doc is aware that the fans won’t be welcoming Simmons with open arms.
