Buddy Hield, a talented shooter for the Indiana Pacers, wasted little time in scoring the opening basket of Thursday night’s home game against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers. According to ESPN Stats & Info, he scored his first points of the game so quickly that he beat the former Pacers icon Reggie Miller’s previous mark.
The quickest 3-pointer made in the play-by-play era was made by Hield at 11:57 in the first quarter (since 1996-97). He surpasses Pacers icon Reggie Miller‘s 3-pointer against the Warriors on March 5, 2000, which came at 11:56 of the first quarter.
Hield was destined to score. Hield has consistently demonstrated his tremendous ability to score big buckets, which the Pacers are now enjoying, ever since he first gained widespread attention while playing for the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
Hield, 30, can also thank Tyrese Haliburton’s father for motivating him to take shots anytime he can avoid dropping the ball on the ground. Hield’s opening performance against the Cavaliers proved that Haliburton’s father was correct, thus it is safe to say that he understands what he is talking about. However, the fact that Hield can make such rapid shots is not all that shocking.

After all, the Pacers shooting guard had a catch-and-shoot 3-point accuracy rate of 42.5 percent going into the game. Since he’s making 2.8 3-pointers on 6.5 catch-and-shoot attempts from behind the arc, the majority of his 3-pointers are also of that sort. Due to his ability to stretch the floor, which is always needed in the NBA, Hield has also always been associated with trade speculations because of his shooting skill.
