There is no denying that Stephen Curry has cemented his position as one of the most illustrious players in NBA history. The same may be said, in part, of Klay Thompson, a colleague on the Golden State Warriors. However, it turned out that hip-hop legend Drake wasn’t the right person for this.
At a recent appearance as a guest on JJ Redick’s podcast, The Old Man & The Three, Steph Curry said that there was one instance when Drake mispronounced Klay’s name during a concert:
Curry noted (h/t Tom Dierberger of NBC Sports) that “Drake gets on this lift that carries him around the arena so he can see the crowd and have that moment.”
He passes by us down there as he turns around, but he doesn’t really acknowledge us. He walks by and says, “Yo!” In Oracle Arena, we are. You guys lost the 2016 NBA Finals, which is crazy. You are aware that it was difficult. Wow, you now have Steph, Draymond, and KD?
That is brutal. Drake is a rather ardent basketball enthusiast, and he frequently attends Warriors games. Klay Thompson is well-known to even casual basketball fans, so perhaps Drake was making a dig at the Warriors’ shooting guard in that situation. However, as Steph pointed out, it’s also possible that Drake was simply so focused on giving a great performance that he somehow forgot about Klay.

Whatever the circumstances, this is a funny story. Not for Klay, that is. Stephen Curry recalled that embarrassing incident and seemed to relish sharing the story. You must keep in mind that this occurred in front of a large audience as well, so you can assume that Thompson didn’t think it was very nice that Drake completely forgot to mention his name.
