Without Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors are suddenly thriving. But even if they’ve shown they can win without the defending Finals MVP at Chase Center, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Warriors wouldn’t benefit from some additional help. Will Andrew Wiggins take the court against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday?
Is Andrew Wiggins playing vs. Blazers?
The last time he played, Wiggins exploded for 36 points and eight three-pointers while achieving his career-best efficiency figures in Golden State’s rout of the Houston Rockets on December 3. When Wiggins was initially diagnosed with a right adductor strain, it was anticipated that he would only miss a few games.

Two weeks after getting hurt, Wiggins started doing some light on-court work, which gave him hope of making a quick recovery. Even Steve Kerr hinted that he would return to the court for the Warriors’ Christmas Day game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
But Wiggins stayed out of both his shorthanded team’s win over the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday and Golden State’s holiday rout over rival Memphis. After the Warriors defeated the Utah Jazz 24 hours later, Kerr referred to Wiggins’ chances of playing against the Blazers on Friday as “doubtful.”
Wiggins didn’t miss the Dubs’ home back-to-back, however, unlike his previous absences from recent weeks due to right adductor pain. He was listed as out against Charlotte and Utah due to a non-COVID sickness, and on Wednesday, he was spotted working out in a mask at Golden State’s practice facility.

Before returning to game action, Kerr normally prefers injured players to practice in full at least once. If healthy, will Wiggins have enough time on the court between Thursday morning and Friday night to put on a uniform for the first time since early December? There is a possibility, but don’t bank on it.
