Guard for the Los Angeles Clippers When he played for the Kentucky Wildcats in college, John Wall was a stud back in Lexington. However, Wall recently acknowledged that if Tyler Hansbrough hadn’t treated him poorly, he would have ended up playing collegiate basketball in Chapel Hill, specifically with the North Carolina Tar Heels.
John Wall recently made an appearance on the Run Your Race podcast and shared a tale about how much he yearned to play collegiate basketball for North Carolina. Even though he toured the campus, the way Hansbrough received him turned him off (h/t Nick Selbe of Sports Illustrated).
So, Ty Lawson and they are there when I arrive for the visit. Tyler Hansbrough has a section all to himself. I approach and ask, “What’s up,” as I am the recruit. I don’t talk to recruits, he declared. F k you, I ain’t coming here, I said. That is an absolute mess.
John Wall was eager to meet Hansbrough because, at the time, he was not just a huge celebrity in North Carolina but also around the country because he had already accomplished practically every goal for a college basketball player. Evidently, Wall thought less of Hansbrough than Wall did of him.
On Theo Pinson’s podcast, John Wall relayed a story that Hansbrough would later dispute while also criticizing John Calipari.
The tale that @JohnWall related on the @tpinsonn show is FALSE! 100% FALSE! He went to Kentucky, and I have no doubt that the Calipari Bank had nothing to do with that.
