While the New England Patriots made one of the worst mistakes in NFL history on Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders finally came out on top in a dramatic conclusion. The Patriots rushed the ball to Rhamondre Stevenson with three seconds remaining in the game and possession of the ball at their own 45-yard line, presumably killing the clock and forcing overtime.
Though Stevenson gained a significant amount of ground, when he approached the 30-yard line for the Raiders, he made the decision to lateral the ball back to Jakobi Meyers. For whatever reason, the fourth-year receiver sprinted several yards backward before returning the ball to Mac Jones.
Chandler Jones of the Raiders intercepted Meyers’ pass intended for Jones. The former Patriot successfully trucked the Patriots quarterback after getting the ball in front of Mac Jones. Jones then had nothing but green in front of him, which gave him the freedom to go into the end zone and give the Raiders a 30-24 victory.

In the last seconds of the game, the Patriots led 24-17. However, with 32 seconds remaining, Derek Carr led Las Vegas on a nine-play, 81-yard touchdown drive that tied the game. However, there was some debate surrounding that touchdown catch since Keelan Cole’s right foot appeared to have come down outside of the field of play. However, a review of the replay upheld the field call.
The Patriots’ hopes of making the playoffs are hurt by the defeat as they plummeted to 7-7 overall and out of the seventh AFC seed. The Raiders advanced to 6-8 on the season, maintaining their limited chances of making the playoffs.
