This season, Austin Ekeler has been among the NFL’s top running backs, assisting both the Chargers’ and fantasy football manager’s postseason aspirations. It seems that Los Angeles and those fantasy owners can both breathe a sigh of relief after getting dinged up in Week 15.

Ekeler rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on 12 attempts as the Chargers defeated the Dolphins 23-17. Ekeler did, however, briefly enter the injury tent during the first quarter. He was able to come back, although the game saw only 14 touches in total from him.

The Chargers head coach allayed any anxieties that fantasy owners may have concerning Ekeler’s injury condition. Staley claimed on Monday that Ekeler had tests done on his shoulder, and the results were negative. It appears that the standout rushing back for the Chargers will be able to participate in Week 16’s game against the Colts.

Austin Ekeler

This season, Austin Ekeler has been a powerhouse both receiving and rushing the football. He has run 165 times for 692 yards and 9 touchdowns in 14 games. Ekeler has added 95 additional receptions for a total of 635 yards and five touchdowns.

Ekeler and Jamaal Williams of the Lions share the league lead with 14 total touchdowns. In the NFL, his 1,327 all-purpose yards place eighth. His 95 receptions rank fourth in the league and are the most of any running back, demonstrating his dominance in the air. The 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey, who has 74, is the second-closest running back.

Ekeler is putting the Chargers in a position to make the playoffs and will be a key player for any team hoping to claim the fantasy football championship. He appears to be over his shoulder ailment and will be able to continue to rule the NFL in Week 16.
