3 Giants

The New York Giants have been among the NFL’s most unexpected teams. Due to the brilliant coaching of Brian Daboll and the better quarterback play of Daniel Jones, they won 7 of their first 9 games and look to be headed for the postseason.

When the Giants faced the Detroit Lions in Week 11 at MetLife Stadium, they presented the impression of a club that was clueless. The Giants were expected to easily defeat a team that has historically been a doormat in the NFC North, but instead, they got off to a slow start and never recovered. They were defeated 31–18.

There is a lot of blame to go around, but these 3 Giants are the ones that need to take the brunt of it.

Daboll Did Not Have This Team Prepared to Compete

Giants fans had to ponder their team’s performance during the previous few weeks. Despite having a stellar record, they lost to the Seattle Seahawks 27-13 in Week 8, nearly defeated the inferior Houston Texans in Week 10 after their bye week, and completely blew it against the Lions.

It’s important to stop this downward trend, but it might be challenging on Thanksgiving when they travel to Dallas to play the raging Cowboys. In order to prevent the strong play of the first half of the season from becoming a distant memory, Daboll needs to rouse his soldiers and get them back to playing quick and effective football.

Daboll is known for running an inventive offensive that keeps rivals on their toes. The Giants will need to show more tenacity than they did against the Lions in the NFC East, which is a tough and fiercely contested division.

Jones Has to Protect the Football

3 Giants

This season, Daniel Jones has significantly improved as he has proven his mettle as a leader and runner. His passing has also significantly improved this year, yet against the Lions, he put his team in danger.

For a total of 341 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions, Jones completed 27 of 44 passes. Aidan Hutchinson, a rookie defensive lineman for the Lions, made one of those interceptions by dropping into coverage and robbing the unaware Jones of the ball.

Jones expressed his team’s disappointment, saying, “I think we’re all fairly dissatisfied with our effort today and how we performed and we’re not up to our standard too, you know, what we’re capable of.”

Barkley did not get the job done

According to expectations, Saquon Barkley is among the best running backs in the NFL. Given that the Lions are one of the league’s worst defensive teams, he ought to have had a field day against them.

Instead, the running back was hammered by the Lions, who limited Barkley to 22 yards on 15 carries with a long of 4 yards. That’s just not acceptable.

Barkley needs to be better than that, even though the Lions are becoming better and have won three straight games. His line needs to be more effective at creating gaps, and Barkley needs to complete his runs.

A decline might be imminent if the Giants don’t swiftly turn things around.
