Cam Akers

The disgruntled running back Cam Akers is still a member of the Los Angeles Rams following the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, despite rumors that he would be leaving. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Rams turned down many trade proposals for Akers before the deadline and now intend to work with his representatives to get him back on the field.

The Rams’ head staff appears to want to mend fences with the third-year back despite the fact that this does not end the storyline. Akers managed to come back for the team’s ultimate Super Bowl run despite missing all of the 2021 NFL regular season due to an Achilles tendon injury sustained in the offseason.

Akers has not appeared to be the explosive player he was briefly during his first season in 2020, which is unfortunate. This year, Akers has only racked up 151 running yards and one touchdown.

Akers was suspended last month for Week 6 before the Rams’ matchup with the Carolina Panthers due to an incident that was deemed to be “football-related.” Soon after, speculations surfaced regarding Akers’ discontent with his reduced position in the offense designed by head coach Sean McVay. Due to this conflict, Akers missed both of the Rams’ previous two games.

Pelissero claims that Akers could return to the lineup with a resolution possibly on the horizon. Any assistance in their run game would be helpful for the Rams as well. The Rams have the fewest rushing yards (479) of any NFL club in 2022, according to Pro Football Reference.
