According to the media, Manchester City is very interested in signing Rafael Leao, an attacker for AC Milan. After leading his team to the Serie A championship with 14 goals last season, the winger is drawing attention after scoring three times and assisting on six goals in eight games. The 23-year-old has been selected for this week’s internationals and may be included on Portugal’s World Cup roster.

Leao, who still has two and a half years on his contract, has been linked to a move to Chelsea as well. After being named the 2018–19 Serie A player of the year during his team’s Scudetto run, his stock has improved following his transfer in 2019.

Calcio Mercato reports that City has taken notice of this and is very interested in signing the forward. This comes following Jack Grealish’s dismal performance in the Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

After an unremarkable first hour, the £100 million man was substituted; however, he quickly made amends by scoring a goal in the opening minute of Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Wolves. But after signing a six-year agreement with City last year, a report from Football Insider claims the 27-year-old has told friends he doesn’t expect to be there next season.

The athlete is losing faith in the Etihad because he believes the team’s philosophy of play will not help him in the long run. While at Aston Villa, Grealish was mostly an offensive midfielder, but under Pep Guardiola, he has been deployed on the left wing.

Guardiola insisted he did not acquire the playmaker for either of those reasons, despite the fact that the English international has scored just seven goals and recorded just four assists in 45 appearances for City and has been called up by Gareth Southgate for the next Nations League battles.

For the 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, Leo was there. He appeared in five out of the tournament’s six games but was benched for the semifinal matchup with the Netherlands.

Leo came on for Domingos Quina in the 79th minute of the championship game against Spain, and Portugal went on to win the tournament for the sixth time by beating Spain 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of regulation and overtime.

At the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, Leo was a part of the under-19 team that placed second overall, losing in the championship match to England. He was selected to the “Team of the Tournament” due to his outstanding play throughout the competition.

He started all three of his team’s games in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, where he scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with South Africa. Despite this, his team ultimately lost the tournament.

Leo earned his first senior national team cap on 10 November 2017 at the tender age of 18. He played 31 minutes in Portugal’s under-21 team’s 1-1 away draw against Romania in qualifying for the 2019 UEFA European Championship.

On September 10, 2019, he scored his first goal at that level, helping his team beat Belarus 2-0 in a qualifying match for the 2021 European Championship. Leo competed in the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in March, where he and Portugal finished in second place after losing the championship game against Germany by a score of 1-0.
