One of the NHL’s most dangerous goal scorers is still Alex Ovechkin. The superstar for the Washington Capitals is the league’s deadliest road scorer historically, and he has the numbers to prove it.
The Great Eight has now surpassed The Great One at the top of the NHL’s all-time list of most career goals scored in the hostile territory following his second goal in Tuesday night’s away game against the Vancouver Canucks.
“Alex Ovechkin broke a tie with Wayne Gretzky for the most away goals ever with two goals in the first period, giving him a career total of 403 away goals. He currently has 793 goals in his entire career, just 8 behind Gordie Howe for second-most in NHL history.

Ovechkin entered the rink in Vancouver having scored 401 goals on the road. He scored five minutes into the game to tie Gretzky’s record. He didn’t keep the Capitals’ supporters waiting for very long before snapping his tie with Gretzky with a thunderous blast from his office, assisted by Dylan Strome and Anthony Mantha.
