Arsen Zakharyan Transfer

Arsen Zakharyan, 19, will be joining Chelsea in a €15 million trade from Dynamo Moscow. He is another highly gifted teenage prospect. It was suggested last summer when Chelsea was originally linked to the player, that the reported value may be a release clause, which would explain the deal’s apparent swiftness and efficiency despite the fact that it involves a team from the Russian Premier League. Evidently, though, it isn’t an issue.

Brief quotes from Zakharyan’s representative, Pavel Andreev, and the publication’s own reporting suggest that an agreement is close to being reached on a fee and structure. Rafaela Pimenta (the “new Mino Raiola“) is rumored to be collaborating with Andreev on this project.

Zakharyan does, in fact, look terrific in his highlight footage, but then again, so does everyone else. In addition to having earned four caps for his national team, he lived up to expectations in his first full season as a professional last year.

Before the UK and EU imposed sanctions on VTB Bank in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this year, the bank held a majority stake in Dynamo. Following the imposition of these sanctions, the club was returned to the Dynamo Sports Society, which is presumably no longer a state-run entity like it was during the Soviet era.

In any case, prior to beginning these discussions, I’m confident that we researched the applicable laws and regulations. Zakharyan’s contract, which he signed in January 2021, 18 months before the war broke out, maybe a contributing factor due to the inclusion of a release provision.

Though we are one of the very few to actually conduct a deal including a transfer fee, we are not the first non-Russian team to do business with a Russian Premier League team this summer. Recent examples include Jordan Larsson’s transfer to Schalke 04 from Spartak and Alex Král’s transfer to Schalke 04 from OGC Nice, both of which featured canceled or suspended contracts.

UEFA has continued to ban teams from the Russian Premier League from European competitions, and FIFA has now joined in.
