Ian Poulter

Fans of the game are aware of the rising tensions between professionals on the PGA Tour and those signing up for LIV Golf. Anyone caught abandoning the tour faces expulsion and, in Cameron Smith’s case, the loss of a coveted parking spot at the tour’s headquarters. Horschel is one of the most outspoken professional golfers in calling for unity in the face of this schism.

And he kept it up at a press conference Tuesday for the BMW PGA Championship, the crown jewel of the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour), which formed a strategic arrangement with the PGA Tour earlier this year to counter the growth of LIV Golf. The defending champion, Horschel, questioned the presence of the other 19 LIV golfers who had registered for the tournament by asking, “Why are you here?”

It was already a touchy situation, but Billy added fuel to the fire by suggesting that some European golfers would be wondering the same thing about Horschel, as one of the golfers, Talor Gooch, pointed out later on Twitter.

Then on Wednesday, Billy and Ian, another LIV person, had what seemed like a very uncomfortable exchange, with Poulter apparently putting his hand on Horschel. Finally, we can stop chatting about it! Come on, let’s check out the recording!

The BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour will be a must-see event this week. Absolutely, the golf course is fantastic. Celebrities like Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are competing.

However, neither of these explanations is particularly interesting. Over 20 members of the LIV Golf Series, including McIlroy, Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, and defending champion Billy Horschel, have made the trip from Boston to Wentworth in Surrey, England for this week’s tournament.

The PGA Tour stars, including Horschel, have spoken out publicly against the participation of Saudi-backed players in a DP World Tour major.

Truthfully, I don’t think the American guys who haven’t shown their support for the Tour should be here. Authors: Abraham Ancer, Talor Gooch. Horschel said on Tuesday, “You’ve never played in this tournament, and you’ve never been a fan of the DP World Tour.” The question, “Why are you here? You’re just playing this game (on LIV Golf) because you want to improve your world rating.

On Wednesday, the Florida Gator and LIV member Ian Poulter were seen having a heated discussion on the practice green. It is unknown what the topic of discussion was.
