Danilo Gallinari Injury

Danilo Gallinari, a forward for Italy, suffered a left knee injury during Saturday’s FIBA World Cup qualification game and had to be taken out of the game. After receiving a ball off a bounce in the lane, the veteran for the Boston Celtics grasped his knee as they played Georgia in Brescia, Italy.

He hobbled up to the sideline while the game was still in progress, gripping the back of his knee. With the assistance of a staff member and a teammate, he hobbled to the locker room.

The final score was 91-84 in favor of Italy. During the win, Gallinari recorded 17 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist. At the press conference following the game, captain Luigi Datome said that Gallinari will be getting an MRI on his knee.

Datome sighed, “It’s tough to talk about basketball after what we saw happen to Danilo.” Of course, we hope for the best for him, and we’ll see what the MRI reveals.

On July 12, the Celtics used their mid-level exception to sign free agent Danilo Gallinari, 34, who will be relied upon for depth as Boston attempts to return to the NBA Finals. After waiting a month, he finally started training with the national squad.

“Unfortunately, finding people interested in discussing basketball right now is difficult. There is something that supersedes everything else. For the past few years, as Gallo’s coach, “Says Italy’s head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco. He was thrilled to join the team, and Gallo is held in high regard by his teammates as a result of his status as “one of the best, possibly the best Italian basketball player ever.”

Gallinari’s scoring average has dropped from 13.3 to 11.7 in his two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, but he has been a reliable NBA player for five different teams throughout the course of his 12-year career.

Since being selected by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft, Danilo Gallinari has also suited up for the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Denver Nuggets traded Danilo Gallinari to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Jamal Crawford, Diamond Stone, and a first-round protected draft selection in 2018 from the Clippers (through Houston) as well as a second-round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks (via Washington) in 2019. Gallinari made his return from a glute injury on December 6 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. On December 20th, he was diagnosed with a partial tear of his left glute muscle, thereby ending his season until at least January.

He scored 28 points on 2/5/18, helping his team beat the Dallas Mavericks 104-101. In this case, a non-displaced fracture of the right hand on February 27 rendered him once again ineligible. In a sign-and-trade agreement, the Atlanta Hawks acquired Gallinari in return for a second-round selection in 2025 with a condition.

Gallinari came up huge in the final minute of Game 7 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers with a key steal from Joel Embiid and a dunk, extending Atlanta’s lead to six, and sending the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Final for the first time since 2015 and only the second time since the franchise relocated to Atlanta in 1968.
