Cj Mosley Contract

Linebacker for the New York Jets of the National Football League, Clint Mosley Jr. was born on June 19, 1992. (NFL). He attended the University of Alabama and was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft for his football playing abilities.

The Jets, who were already in a stronger position than most teams in terms of 2022 cap space, created even more breathing room today. Field Yates of ESPN reports that linebacker C.J. Mosley had his contract renegotiated by the New York Giants.

For the 2022 season, Mosley’s $14.88MM in base salary will be converted into a signing bonus, freeing up $11.9MM in cap space. His contract, which was originally set to end in 2024, has been extended by two empty years.

The 30-year-old shook up the free agent market in 2019 by signing a five-year, $85 million contract. This contract’s average annual value of $17 million set a new high for inside linebackers and has since been topped only by Shaquille Leonard and Fred Warner. The four-time Pro Bowler signed a contract in 2018, but he only appeared in two games in 2019 and 2020 before he opted out of the 2020 season due to injury.

Because of this, Mosley’s name started popping up as a potential trade partner rather often. The Jets were approached for him back in March but ultimately decided to keep him.

After missing the whole 2020 season due to injury, he returned in 2021 and immediately ranked fourth in the NFL in tackles (168), while also recording two sacks and two forced fumbles. Perhaps buoyed by his showing, the organization has decided to invest financially in Mosely to keep him around for at least another season.

The cap hits for both of Mosley’s remaining guaranteed years (2023-24) have increased, now totaling $21.48M. There is no more assured payment due from the remaining $50 million in the transaction.

A release or trade before June 1 of next year would save the team money, but the dead cap penalty would more than cancel it out. However, given the heavy cap charge, an extension may be on the table, or more likely, an attempt would be made to convince Mosley to take a price reduction like Jamison Crowder did last year.

After the 2012 season, Mosley was named to the AP’s first team of All-Americans at linebacker, joining former colleague Dont’a Hightower on the first team and fellow linebacker Courtney Upshaw on the second team. For four of the previous five years, Alabama had a linebacker on the AP All-American team (first through third teams) thanks to Mosley’s selection in 2012.

With 107 stops in 2012, Mosley was the team leader, and sophomore Trey DePriest was second with 59 stops. In 2012, Mosley was runner-up to Notre Dame’s Manti To and Georgia’s Jarvis Jones for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s finest linebacker. Mosley was named Alabama’s most valuable player in 2012.

With three touchdowns, Mosley tied the Alabama record for most interception returns in a career. In a December 2012 interview, Mosley stated his intention to finish his college career at Alabama and enter the NFL Draft in the spring of 2013.

For the second year in a row, Mosley led the Alabama football team in tackles (108), and he set a new personal best for tackles per game at the collegiate level. The Lombardi, Bednarik, and Butkus Awards all named Mosley a finalist that November. Despite the fact that Michael Sam of the Missouri Tigers is more widely known as the SEC’s defensive player of the year in 2013, the title was really split by Sam and Mosley.

Mosley was once again selected to the SEC’s first team as an All-Conference performer. He was also named to the Associated Press’s All-America First Team.
