Mike Williams

On Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium, Keenan Allen was unavailable for the Los Angeles Chargers game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Allen’s hamstring injury opened the door for Mike Williams to shine. Williams erupted against another AFC West foe after posting season-lows in receptions (2) and receiving yards (10) in the opening win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

With his incredible touchdown catch early in the third quarter, he helped Los Angeles take a 17-7 lead over the defending AFC West champions. As you shall see, this wasn’t some random grab. Williams caught Justin Herbert’s pass with one hand and held on to it as he fell to the ground in the end zone, resulting in a 6-point play.

Williams has 113 yards on 8 catches at that time. hasn’t perfected consistency, but he’s unbeatable when he’s on his game. Williams had an important role in Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Keenan Allen was out for the season with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers passing game features Allen and Williams as 1a and 1b, respectively, but Allen is more consistent in his stat-gathering. After Allen went down with a hamstring injury against the Chiefs, Williams was called upon to carry the offensive load.

The touchdown Williams scored on Thursday night was spectacular. The Chargers started the second half with the ball, and after getting a first down on a fourth-down run by Austin Ekeler, they threw a deep pass for Williams. Williams was not open for Herbert’s touchdown ball to the end zone. Forget about it.

Williams extended one hand, caught the pass with it, stayed in bounds, and held on to the ball even after falling to the ground. It was a spectacular play that resulted in a touchdown and put the Chargers up 17-7.

Williams, the Chargers’ seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, has shown flashes of brilliance. Before he became a free agent this past summer, they re-signed him for three more years at a total cost of $60 million. If you had to make a bet on Thursday night, Williams would have been a good one.
