Chase Young Injury

American football defensive end Chase Young was born on April 14, 1999, and he now plays for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). Originating in the state of Maryland, he went on to represent the Ohio State Buckeyes in collegiate football. In 2019, Young was a junior, and he set the school record for most sacks in a season with 16.5.

He was also selected as a unanimous All-American and won multiple defensive players of the year awards. A unique defensive player, he was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and was selected Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year.

Injury

Chase Young, a defensive end with the Washington Commanders, “is remaining on track with his recovery” from a torn ACL, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

According to a tweet by Arizona Cardinals insider Mike Jurecki that has since been removed, Young “reaggravated” his knee condition while attending Von Miller’s pass-rushing camp, and the Commanders are not pleased with his decision to work out outside of the team’s facilities.

Two weeks ago, Washington put Young on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, effectively benching him for the first four games of the 2022 season. After injuring his ACL and MCL in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last November, he spent training camp on the active/PUP list while rehabbing from reconstructive surgery.

Recently, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports indicated that Young wouldn’t be returning until after the All-Star break. Last month, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera remarked that it was difficult to put a timeline on Young’s return.

“As we go through this, it’s impossible to forecast on recuperation time,” Rivera remarked back in August. “Since the extent of this injury exceeds that of the typical sports injury, the recovery period will take somewhat longer. So, how long is that window of opportunity? What I’m about to tell you is top secret.”

Young, who was taken second overall in the upcoming draft, was voted NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after racking up 7.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. Although he played in nine games, he only recorded 1.5 sacks.

On Sunday, September 3rd, 2022, the Commanders will open their season at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As of this now, Young can’t play again until October 9 against the Tennessee Titans.

James Smith-Williams and Casey Toohill will continue to fill in for him on a rotational basis while he is absent.
