Since Christian Pulisic’s future with Chelsea appears to be in jeopardy, Graham Potter has provided an update on the situation. The 24-year-old was widely reported to be leaving Stamford Bridge over the summer after falling out of favour with former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Pulisic, whose current contract with the west London club expires in 2024, played 22 times in the Premier League for the Blues last season and made direct contributions to eight goals. As competition for starting spots was fierce at Chelsea, he was only able to contribute somewhat to the team’s success in qualifying for the Champions League.

United States international would reportedly “gladly accept” a January transfer to AC Milan if offered due to lack of playing time under new manager Potter. This is according to the Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport. According to reports, Todd Boehly is planning to propose a player-plus-cash exchange deal for Rafael Leao.

A deal may be even sweeter because of the Rossoneri’s rumoured long-term interest in Pulisic, according to the article. Before the American made his debut off the bench for Chelsea against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, the player’s coach, Potter, put an end to the rumours around his player’s future.

According to Goal, the new Blues manager has said, “I think players go through periods of their careers where they have to suffer a little bit for whatever reason and don’t get their game time that they would like and I think that’s part of the job, that’s part of the sign up to be a Premier League player. Maintaining a regular spot on a top-four squad is difficult.

All I know about him is how he has treated me. He has a great attitude, and he is a smart, articulate man who can convey his ideas well. He and I had a very pleasant talk, and I decided not to base my opinion of him on his background. Football, one hopes, will be the deciding factor.

Even though the winter transfer market won’t open until January, the £44 million striker will be eager to secure a spot in Potter’s starting lineup in front of the World Cup. For the time being, Chelsea must plot a course of action involving Pulisic, who has enormous untapped potential.
