Derek Barnett

American football defensive end Derek Anthony Barnett (born June 25, 1996) plays for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL (NFL). He participated in collegiate football at the University of Tennessee before being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Defense end Derek Anthony Barnett was born on June 25, 1996, and he currently plays for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL (NFL). He participated in football at the University of Tennessee before being selected by the Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft. The squad, despite this, had a more favorable opinion of him than the general public. They expected him to be a starting defensive end, and they weren’t kidding around.

Now that Barnett is hurt, Tarron Jackson has a chance to get more playing time. Due in part to a lack of roster space, the 2021 sixth-round pick did not play in Week 1. Jackson had a promising summer, so we can hope that he can make an immediate impact with his improved play.

Jackson, however, is now the third defensive end on the roster, after Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat. Fletcher Cox and Milton Williams, both defensive tackles, have seen some time in the end, but neither has been very successful in that spot.

Since the Eagles have yet to activate Andre Dillard off injured reserve, they still have an open roster place as of this writing. With Barnett’s departure to injured reserve, they’ll have another. How they’ll fill those slots is a mystery at this point.

There is some good news for Barnett, as he has a strong chance of being fully recovered before the beginning of the 2023 season. But even it probably doesn’t help much right now.

Barnett made his first professional regular-season appearance in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, where the Eagles won 30-17. In Week 6, the Eagles defeated the Carolina Panthers 28-23, with Barnett recording two solo tackles and being credited with a half sack of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

The sack he recorded on Cam Newton was his first ever. He made three tackles and had two sacks against the Washington Redskins in Week 7. It was the first time in his career he had a multi-sack game. Against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11, he had another two-sack performance in a 37-9 win.

He scored his first NFL touchdown, from 23 yards out, on a fumble recovery in Week 16 of the season, a 19-10 win over the Oakland Raiders. In 2017, he played in 15 games but had no starts, totaling 21 tackles (18 solos) and five sacks.

The Philadelphia Eagles ended with a 13-3 record, good enough to win the NFC East and secure a first-round bye. Barnett played in his first playoff game with the Eagles on January 13, 2018, in a 15-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Round. The following week, the Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings 38-7, and Barnett recorded two solo tackles and a strip sack of quarterback Case Keenum.
