While playing for France in their 2-0 Nations League win against Austria, Barcelona defender Jules Kounde got injured and had to leave the game.
The summer signing was included in Didier Deschamps’ starting lineup for the international match at the Stade de France in Paris; however, he was taken off with an injury after only 23 minutes.
The defender was replaced by William Saliba of Arsenal, suggesting a physical cause for the injury. In addition to Kounde, France lost goalie Mike Maignan to a calf injury, forcing him to be replaced at halftime.

With goals from Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud just minutes into the second half, Les Bleus were able to snap a losing streak in the 2018-19 Nations League and move up to third place in their group.
Didier Deschamps has since revealed that Kounde has sustained a thigh injury; the results of a medical scan scheduled for tomorrow will reveal the full extent of the damage. This is a major setback for the Catalan powerhouses as they prepare for a hectic schedule of games following the international break.
Xavi’s squad will play nine games in October, including the El Clasico against Real Madrid and important Champions League matches against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Since joining the Catalan club in the summer, Kounde has made three league appearances and two Champions League appearances, and he has been in good form. Kounde formerly played for LaLiga rivals, Sevilla.
Koundé’s transfer from Sevilla to Barcelona was announced. Barcelona’s season opener against Rayo Vallecano was played without Koundé since the club was unable to register him due to going over the salary cap.
As a result, he was unable to watch Barcelona’s second league match of the season, on August 21 against Real Sociedad. Kunde signed with La Liga on August 26 and made his debut in a 4-0 win over Real Valladolid at the Camp Nou the following day.
