Edinson Uruguayan striker Roberto Cavani Gómez currently plays for Valencia of La Liga and the national squad. El Matador (‘The Bullfighter’) was given to him because he was regarded as one of the best strikers of his period. He was admired for his clever off-the-ball movement, precision finishing, and powerful headers.
Cavani started his professional career with Danubio in Montevideo for two years before making the move to Palermo in the Italian league in 2007. In 2010, Cavani joined Napoli, first on loan and then permanently for a cost of €17 million.
On Monday, Valencia of Spain confirmed that former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will be joining the club on a free transfer.
The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker was free after his two-year contract at Old Trafford expired earlier this summer. Cavani will join Gennaro Gattuso’s squad for the next two years after agreeing to a contract.
On Monday, the former PSG striker watched his new team, Valencia, losing 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in LaLiga at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium.
Former club Real Sociedad was also interested in signing the veteran but ultimately lost out to Valencia. Real Sociedad is still searching to replace Swedish forward Alexander Isak, who signed with Newcastle last week for €70 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
Cavani landed in Valencia on Monday and spoke with the local press after he had successfully completed a medical checkup. “It makes me delighted to be here. Because Valencia was ready to take a chance on me, I was able to fulfill my dream of playing in Spain “To quote Cavani:

“I prefer to play for a club that values and appreciates me because your success directly correlates to how much support you receive from the fans and the organization. I had encouraging conversations with Gattuso and Valencia, and I intend to repay them by doing my best for the team and making a positive impression when I depart.”
Gattuso remarked after Monday’s game that Cavani will need time to get ready for his Valencia debut after missing three months of training. “We (the medical personnel and I) need to get along with him, I believe.

In the three months after his contract with Manchester United terminated at the conclusion of last season, he has been training independently “That’s what Gattuso had to say. “We have to train and coach him well. Since he has been sidelined for three months, we need to treat him gently and carefully.
I believe he has come to Valencia to aid in our efforts, but the club must also lend a hand. The best way for him to play is still to be determined.”Cavani kicked off his professional career in Uruguay with Danubio before making the switch to Europe in 2007 to sign with Palermo.
After four years in Sicily, he moved on to Napoli, where he became the league’s leading scorer the following year by tallying 104 goals in 138 games. He joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 and, during the course of seven seasons there, set the record for goals scored by a PSG player. In 2020, he signed with Manchester United, where he spent the subsequent two seasons playing.
Cavani scored in his debut for the Uruguayan national team, which resulted in a 2-2 draw against Colombia. It was a counterattack from a corner kick, and he scored from inside his own half.
Cavani assisted Luis Suárez on Uruguay’s winning goal against Mexico in the 2010 World Cup’s final group stage match on June 22. Since they conquered Group A, Uruguay is moving on to the next round. He tied the game against Germany in the third-place game on July 10, 2010; Germany ultimately won by a score of 3-2.
His first international hat trick came on October 8, 2010, in a 7-1 friendly match triumph against Indonesia in Jakarta. Luis Suárez also scored a hat trick in that game. Cavani was a member of the Uruguayan squad that competed in Argentina for the 2011 Copa América.
He started the first two games of the group stage but was sidelined for the rest of the tournament after suffering a knee injury in the second game, against Chile. After replacing Alvaro Pereira (63′) in the championship game, he helped set up the game-winning goal as Uruguay defeated Paraguay (3-0) to win a record 15th title.
