Emerson Palmieri Transfer

On Tuesday, West Ham United announced that they have finalized the transfer of Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri to themselves, for a four-year contract. West Ham reportedly spent around £13 million ($15.36 million) for Palmieri, who played for Italy in last year’s European Championship and won the tournament.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan with French club Lyon after failing to break into Chelsea’s starting lineup despite moving there from AS Roma in 2018. He played 71 times for Chelsea in all competitions.

“It’s a big task for me, it’s a large team, so I’m extremely delighted to be here and I’m ready,” Emerson said, according to the West Ham website. With three straight losses to start the season, David Moyes’ West Ham United are currently last in the league and has added Emerson, their sixth new player, to their roster.

“He’s a veteran of the game with a solid background. He’ll provide tough competition for spots in our defense and bring the kind of winning mindset we’re trying to foster at West Ham “According to Moyes.

This Thursday, West Ham will be at Viborg, Denmark, to take on the Danish club Viborg in the second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff. They took the home match by a score of 3-1.

Emerson Palmieri, a left-back for Chelsea, has finalized his transfer to West Ham United in a £13+2m deal, signing a four-year contract through 2026 with an additional year of the extension.

After five years with the Blues, Emerson is leaving after making just 71 appearances due to his extensive time spent on the bench, on loan, and (particularly) on the sidelines due to injury.

The 28-year-old still has a European Cup hat trick with Chelsea Blue, having won the Europa League in 2019 and the Champions League and Super Cup in 2020 and 2021, respectively. He also won Euro 2020/1 with the Italian national team this past summer. (Unfortunately for him, Italy did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup and will therefore not be participating in the tournament later this year.)

In any event, I appreciate your efforts, and I appreciate how professional you’ve been, Emerson, even when you were at the bottom of the roster. We wish you the best of luck in East London unless, of course, you’re playing us.

In 2011, Emerson was a member of the Brazilian U-17 national team that won the South American U-17 Championship and finished in second place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. He started every game in both competitions and scored a goal on March 16, 2011, against Chile.

Emerson was reportedly courted by Italy head coach Gian Piero Ventura in March 2017 as he came close to getting Italian citizenship and showed interest in switching his international allegiance to Italy.

On March 29, 2017, he made the official change of allegiance to Italy.  In June of 2017, Ventura called on Emerson to play for the Brazilian national team in matches against Uruguay and Liechtenstein. However, Emerson was injured and was replaced by Andrea Conti.

Emerson was called up by new Italy manager Roberto Mancini on May 19 to play in Italy’s upcoming friendlies against Saudi Arabia, France, and the Netherlands in May and June, but he ended up withdrawing from the team due to an injury.

Later in September 2018, he was recalled to the squad for Italy’s first UEFA Nations League matches against Poland and Portugal.  On September 10th, as a second-half replacement for Domenico Criscito, he made his senior national team debut for Italy in a 1-0 away loss to Portugal in a UEFA Nations League encounter.
