Lamar Jackson

Players of the Month awards have been handed out for the first time in the 2022 NFL season, and recipients include Lamar Jackson (quarterback, Baltimore Ravens) and Jalen Hurts (running back, Philadelphia Eagles).

This past Thursday, the NFL announced that Jackson, linebacker Melvin Ingram of the Miami Dolphins, and punter Tommy Townsend of the Kansas City Chiefs were the AFC offensive, defensive, and special teams players of the month, respectively.

With 2022 being Jackson’s final year of his deal with the Ravens, he has made a great start. The two-time All-Pro has already reached the 1,000-yard mark this season through just three games. He has guided Baltimore to a 2-1 start this season by passing for 749 yards and 10 touchdowns and running.

for 249 yards and two more scores. It’s not shocking given the bar he’s set over the course of his six-year career, and he’s following the time-honored pattern of professional athletes having breakout campaigns right before contract extension talks begin.

Ingram’s strong play so far has been a major factor in the Dolphins’ blazing 3-0 start to the month of September. Over the course of Miami’s first three games, the 11-year veteran recorded six tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Townsend, the punter for the Chiefs, has a 55.5-yard average this year and a 74-yard long.

In addition to Foles, the league revealed on Thursday that quarterback Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, linebacker Devin White of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and punter Mitch Wishnowsky of the San Francisco 49ers had also won accolades for the first month of the season for their respective teams.

During the 2022 NFL season, Hurts made a significant improvement in his game. The 2020 second-round pick is in his third year with the Eagles and has guided them to a 3-0 start with 1,083 total yards.

This 24-year-old has accounted for 916 passing yards and four touchdowns, in addition to 167 rushing yards and three more scores. The Eagles have been one of the top teams through the first month of the NFL season, and most of the credit for that goes to Hurts’ play.
