Sam Coffey Replaces Forward Ashley Hatch

Washington Spirit striker Ashley Hatch will be replaced by Portland Thorns midfielder Sam Coffey on the 23-person U.S. Women’s National Team squad for the Concacaf W Championship. Hatch missed the remainder of the tournament due to a left leg muscle strain she acquired in her match against Jamaica on July 7.

Playing 59 minutes against Jamaica was Hatch’s lone appearance at the tournament. When she fired a shot, it hit the side of the net twice, and a goal was disallowed for offside. Between-group stage and the semifinal round of the Concacaf W Championship, clubs are permitted to make roster changes due to injury, if necessary.

Coffey was in the US team’s pre-tournament training camp and friendly matches against Colombia in Colorado and Utah, but he did not play in either of those games. A 23-year-old uncapped player, Coffey, will help the United States in the final rounds.
