Garrett Wilson

Garrett Wilson (born July 22, 2000) is an American football wide receiver who currently plays for the New York Jets of the NFL (NFL). As a former Ohio State Buckeye, he was selected by the Jets in the tenth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Rookie Dinner is one of the less-pleasant aspects of being a rookie in the NFL, especially if you’re drafted in the first round.

Rookies or groups of rookies will take their teammates out to dinner and, with the knowledge of who will be footing the bill, will go out of their way to run up a massive bill for the sake of embarrassing their colleagues.

Ordering every steak on the menu to sample some of each and accompanying it with an older bottle of liquor is what we’re talking about. Imagine the most expensive supper you’ve ever had, double it by the number of people in your position group, and add an obligatory gratuity.

In the process of getting to know his new teammates, Garrett Wilson, the New York Jets first-round draught pick, should have been dreading this moment.

The Pivot Podcast, hosted by former NFL players Fred Taylor, Ryan Clark, and Channing Crowder, featured the former Ohio State wideout. Veterans alternated between hilarity and serious concern as they realized Wilson had no idea what he was getting himself into when they brought up the notorious supper.

As a seasoned member of the New England Patriots, Taylor told Wilson about a day when the entire squad dined together on the money of a group of 10-12 rookies. It cost him between $50,000 and $60,000, mostly because Tom Brady bought a $3,000-$5,000 bottle of wine to sip from.

Wilson played in all 14 games as a freshman at Ohio State in 2019 and had 30 receptions for 432 yards and five touchdowns. As a slot receiver in 2020, he was shifted from the outside receiver. It was only the second time in Buckeye history that a player had at least 100 yards receiving in four straight games when Wilson did it on November 21, 2020. When Wilson declared on December 27, 2021, that he was opting out of the 2022 Rose Bowl and declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft, the world was shocked.
