Anthony Edwards

Following his underwhelming performance in the Minnesota Timberwolves victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder in their season opener, Anthony Edwards significantly improved for them on Friday night. Despite his heroics, the Wolves nonetheless dropped their season opener, 132-126, to the Utah Jazz in overtime.

Edwards made a point of emphasizing the team’s need to go small after the discouraging setback. The 21-year-old believes that Minnesota’s small-ball strategy will be advantageous for him in the future (according to NBA reporter Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic):

“The smaller we go, the better it is for me,” Edwards said.

The main issue is that Karl-Anthony Towns and new addition Rudy Gobert represent two of the best centers in the NBA right now. Edwards responded with characteristically self-assured confidence when asked what he thinks the group should do to solve this situation:

“Gotta figure it out,” said Edwards. “It s the little things. I m gonna figure it out. It won t take long.”

Fair enough, the revamped Timberwolves have only competed in two games as a team. There will be difficulties along the way, but one positive from Friday’s defeat is that Minnesota at least had an early surprise in only their second game.

 Anthony Edwards

Edwards was a monster in this game, scoring 30 points, a game-high, on 12-of-23 shooting from the field. He also had three triples, two assists, and five rebounds, but he also made at least five turnovers.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs are the opponents for Saturday’s back-to-back series before Edwards and company take a brief break.
