Hadji Barry

Hadji Barry, a forward for the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC of the USL Championship, has been traded to Future FC of the Egyptian Premier League. The historic move marks the greatest transfer fee earned in USL Championship history. League policy dictates that, pending league and federation approval, no information regarding the move can be released to the public.

Barry explained that while the choice was tough, it was ultimately life-changing and affirming: “Opportunities like this don’t come often, so it was an easy decision for me to make, but bittersweet at the same time because I really love this club, I love the organization, love my coaching staff, love my teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t be half the player I am now, but God typically has other plans [for us], and we can’t dispute that.

He said, “I liked the last two years of playing professional soccer, and I feel like it has been the best two years of my career, and I have been around the best people that I have encountered in my lifetime.” Brendan Burke deserves my deepest gratitude; without him, none of this would have been possible. That’s the person who’s had my back since the first day I set foot in this building.

Over the course of seven seasons in the USL Championship with Orlando City B, Sporting Kansas City II, Ottawa Fury FC, North Carolina FC, and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Barry scored 81 goals and dished out 24 assists in 157 total games. In the regular season, Barry scored 79 goals, which is good for second all-time in USL Championship history.

Barry left an everlasting mark on the Switchbacks in his rookie year. Barry set new single-season and career-high marks for goals scored by a Switchbacks FC player with 25 in 32 regular season games. Barry also was named to the 2021 All-League First Team and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2021 USL Championship.

In 2022, with Barry as captain, the squad won their first nine games of the season. With 30 games played, Barry tallied 16 goals and nine assists. Brendan Burke, the team’s head coach and general manager, remarked, “It has been a pleasure to work with Hadji over the previous two years.

” It’s tough to part with a key player this late in the season, but we have a solid strategy in place for reinvesting the proceeds next year, so this is actually a big win for the league and our club.

“We also want to make it quite clear that we support Hadji’s life-altering move because of Hadji the person and Hadji the professional. The club and league owe him for creating so many unforgettable moments, and now he deserves some of the recognition and honors that come with his accomplishments.

We (his teammates, the staff, and myself) will miss him, but we all wish him well in his future endeavor. After Hadji’s aid this year, we think our current team has what it takes to make a long postseason run.

Mark Cartwright, the USL’s director of sports, has noted that the international football community has taken notice of the league’s championship level of play. When our league’s Most Valuable Player, Hadji Barry, a 29-year-old forward, leaves for a record amount, it raises the price tag on every player in the league.

The USL’s emerging talent and our veteran players are being monitored by clubs and leagues all around the world. I’d like to extend the League’s best wishes to Hadji and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on this historic victory.

After just two seasons, “Hadji Barry is a Switchbacks legend,” remarked Switchbacks FC President Nick Ragain. The decision to approve his transfer at this point in the season was the most difficult I’ve ever been a part of.

Barry’s impact on our team goes much beyond his goal-scoring and assist totals. His unyielding determination and unwavering moral fiber have encouraged us to become a stronger team. Hadji has our best wishes for his future pursuits.
