Harris English Injury

PGA Tour member Harris English (born July 23, 1989) is an American professional golfer. Both the Stadion Athens Classic at the University of Georgia in May and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational, which he won, was part of the 2011 Nationwide Tour. His victory was the third by an amateur on the Tour, after Daniel Summerhays in 2007 and Russell Henley a year earlier. Columbus’ Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course hosted the event.

Harris English Injury

Harris English will not be participating in the master’s. British golfer Chris English has pulled out of this year’s first major tournament as he continues his rehabilitation following hip surgery on Feb. 14. Because of a persistent ankle issue since the fall, English withdrew from the WM Phoenix Open in February to undergo surgery.

His last tournament appearance was in January, when he finished in the top 30 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open, both in New York City (T-55).

English, 32, has had a successful year and is looking forward to a better one in 2015. For the first time in seven years, he won in Kapalua in 2021, followed by a victory at the Travelers Championship in an eight-hole playoff to secure a position on the United States Ryder Cup team. Augusta National was his first start since 2016 and he finished T-21.

There will be no replacement for English among the remaining 90 masters competitors, among them is Tiger Woods. This week’s Valero Texas Open winner, if he or she hasn’t previously qualified, can take home the 91st and last berth in the field.

Valdosta native and alumnus of the University of Georgia was having a career revival before the injury, winning twice in 2021 to qualify for the Tour Championship and receiving a captain’s pick for the victorious Ryder Cup crew.

When English returned to Augusta National for the 2021 Masters, he finished T-21, his best finish since 2016.

His last PGA Tour outing was at the Sony Open in January, and he pulled out of the WM Phoenix Open in February before deciding to have surgery on an issue that had been bothering him since just after the Ryder Cup.

If this week’s winner of the Valero Texas Open is not already qualified, there is a final berth available for the winner of this week’s Valero Texas Open.

Having competed in the Walker Cup in Scotland the year before, English made the switch to the professional ranks in September. Danny Lee beat him in a playoff to win the WNB Golf Classic, his second event on the Nationwide Tour, although he had to settle for second place in the tournament. Reigning runner-up in the Nationwide Tour’s money race took him up to 75th place. English qualified for the 2012 PGA Tour after finishing in a tie for 13th place at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in December.

English and J. B. Holmes shared the lead at the halfway point of the Farmers Insurance Open in February 2015. In the final round, he scored a birdie at the 72nd hole to join Holmes, Jason Day, and Scott Stallings in a four-man sudden-death playoff. English and Stallings were both eliminated on the par-five 18th hole in the first playoff hole after English’s lay-up went into the deep rough.

English triumphed in the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua Resort in Hawaii in January of that year. His victory versus Joaquin Niemann was decided in a penalty shootout. As a result of COVID’s impact on the 2019–20 season, English was able to qualify for the tournament that is normally reserved for previous year’s winners, despite the fact that he had already qualified for the 2020 Tour Championship.

During a playoff against Kramer Hickok in June 2021, English birdied the eighth hole to win the Travelers Championship. PGA Tour playoffs have never been that long.
