Harrison Butker Injury

Butker gets hurt before Thursday’s game, the Kansas City Chiefs have kicker Matt Ammendola on the roster as a backup. With only their Week 1 fill-in safety and an injured kicker, the Kansas City Chiefs had no chance of winning another NFL game.

That’s why they had a tryout for one prospective replacement player on Monday at Arrowhead and ultimately signed another to the practice squad. NFL insider Tom Pelissero claims that the Chiefs have signed kicker

Matt Ammendola to their practice squad in preparation for their short week Week 2 matchup against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers. This clash features two of the greatest teams in the NFL as a whole, and it’s a primetime showdown to kick off Amazon’s TNF series.

Butker was injured in the first quarter of Week 1’s victory over the Arizona Cardinals and never returned for the Chiefs. After the first score of the 44-21 thrashing, Butker was temporarily unable to kick because his plant foot slipped. Safety After having a blast in the preseason demonstrating his unexpected kicking abilities, Justin Reid ended up kicking two extra points (converting one) and kicking off for the rest of the game.

While Reid can still help in a pinch, the Chiefs should have had a reliable replacement for Butker on standby all along. Butker came back in the first half on crutches and kicked a 54-yard field goal with a one-step approach, proving that he is still a powerful and accurate kicker even when hurt.

Once a star kicker at Oklahoma State, Ammendola went undrafted in 2020 but has since gotten brief stints with the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, and Houston Texans in the NFL.

Matt McMullen of the Chiefs’ official site reports that Butker (ankle) was listed as a probable non-participant on the team’s injury report on Monday, despite the fact that Kansas City did not hold a practice.

On Sunday’s season-opening triumph over the Cardinals, Butker injured his ankle on a kickoff and had to be taken off the field. The 27-year-old came back and kicked a 54-yard field goal with time running out in the first half, so it does not appear that this problem hindered his general kicking talents.

If Butker is healthy enough to play on Thursday night against the Chargers, he will take over place-kicking responsibilities and either share or hand off kickoff duties to safety Justin Reid, who filled in as the team’s emergency kicker while Butker was out on Sunday.

Butker kicked a 58-yarder, a 30-yarder with no time left in regulation, and a 58-yarder to win the game in overtime, resulting in a 23-20 victory for the Chiefs. Due to his outstanding play, he was recognized as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In Week 7’s game against the Denver Broncos, Butker missed his fifth extra point of the season, setting a new career best for missed extra points in a season. By the end of the 2020 season, he had a 25-for-27 record on field goals and a 48-for-54 record on extra points. Butker scored all 9 of Kansas City’s points in their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

On December 20, 2021, Butker tested positive for COVID-19, prompting him to be placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. He was unable to play for the Chiefs in Week 16 against the Steelers due to the NFL’s COVID-19 regulations.

His first career absence from a game. The 29th of December, 2021 saw his activation. Butker played in 16 games during the 2021 season, making 47 of 49 extra point attempts and 25 of 28 field goal tries.
