Jakobi Meyers Injury

Since joining the NFL as an undrafted free agent, Jakobi Meyers’s greatest strength has been his ability to overcome adversity. He accomplished this in 2019 as a rookie for the New England Patriots, where he plays opposite first-round pick, N’Keal Harry. He accomplished this as a sophomore in 2020 after beginning the season as the Patriots’ secondary receiving option.

It was in the year 2021 that he again performed the action. Despite the Patriots signing several talented wideouts in free agency, including Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Hunter Henry, and Jonnu Smith, Meyers emerged as the team’s top target.

The Patriots’ joint workouts with the Las Vegas Raiders this week confirmed that this upcoming season will be more of the same for the 25-year-old. Within just two days of training with the Raiders, Meyers established himself as quarterback Mac Jones’ most dependable and effective target.

In light of this, it shouldn’t have come as a shock to hear Jones gush over Meyers after their meeting on Wednesday.

The backup quarterback praised him as “very knowledgeable” when asked about the new QB. I’ve known him as a close friend ever since I arrived, and I have complete faith in him. Many times, we share the same interpretation of the game without even a need for a conversation to establish it.

We’re just trying to improve our repertoire by working on our relationship and taking cues from what he sees as we go. Exactly how may he assist me? How may I be of use to him?

“Maybe here we can all develop and flourish. Simply put, he’s a tough and astute football player. I’m bringing him on board, hopefully permanently.

Over the course of last year, Meyers and Jones established a strong rapport. After Jones won the starting job, the two became inseparable despite having had few opportunities to bond throughout the summer (when Meyers was instead focusing on incumbent starter Cam Newton and the first-team offense).

By the end of the season, the wideout had caught 88 receptions for 895 yards and a touchdown from the first-year quarterback. Meyers once again faces some strong competition in the New England wide receiver group, but this duo is on the rise in their second season together.

After all, the Patriots have provided Jones with two more fascinating targets to work with throughout the offseason. In addition to acquiring DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins in a trade, they also drafted Tyquan Thornton in the second round.

In addition, Meyers admitted that the team’s new offensive approach was difficult to get used to at first. It’s been a month since he first arrived in New England, but he’s still making plays and protecting his quarterback in the same reliable fashion.

Meyers minimized both the revisions to the blueprints and his own part in them on Monday. To paraphrase, “I’m pretty much doing the same work,” he said. There’s nothing for it but to get out there and do it. That’s football every season for you. Even if it’s the same thing every year, if you don’t improve, you won’t be around for very long.

When compared to others, Meyers has been around for quite some time. This, in turn, speaks to his versatility and improvement over time, which has helped him become a key contributor for the Patriots.
