James Washington Injury

According to various sources, the Dallas Cowboys will be without wide receiver James Washington for 6-10 weeks due to a fractured right foot. He’ll have surgery in Dallas on Tuesday.

Washington’s foot looked to get snagged underneath Trevon Diggs during a seven-on-seven exercise during Monday’s first padded practice of training camp. When Washington tried to get out of bed, he was unable to put any weight on his foot until the team’s medical staff arrived.

After being escorted to the locker room, further testing indicated that Washington had suffered a fracture to his fifth metatarsal.

DeMarcus Lawrence, a defensive end, missed 10 games last year after breaking his foot during a Week 2 practice. To make matters worse, he underwent an additional operation after the season ended due to the fracture in his foot that he suffered in 2015.

A torn anterior cruciate ligament has put Michael Gallup on the physical incapacity list as he continues his recovery. While his rehabilitation is progressing, he has ruled himself out of the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There are hopes he will be able to return in September.

Only Noah Brown has caught a pass from Dak Prescott during a regular-season game, but CeeDee Lamb is poised to take over as the team’s top receiver. Tolbert was taken in the third round by the Cowboys from the University of Alabama after the scouts were impressed by his potential.

Dallas has been reluctant to bring in an experienced receiver, and it is not apparent whether the departure of Washington would change their thinking. For Dennis Houston, it was a chance to collaborate with Lamb, Brown, and Tolbert after Washington’s demise.

Due to an injury to his left foot, Washington, a free agent signing with the Cowboys, missed much of the offseason program. On Saturday, he caught a touchdown pass during a training session.

Washington hauled in 114 passes for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns during his four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League. Two touchdowns and 24 receptions in 15 games in 2021.

During Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns, Washington finished with 111 receiving yards on four receptions, including a 30-yard touchdown, as the Steelers won 20-13. Overall, Washington finished the 2019 season with 44 receptions for 735 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Washington was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Steelers on August 2, 2020, and was activated five days later.
