The next bout between Daniel Dubois and Lucas Browne has been planned, but the British Boxing Board of Control has declined to authorise it.
Trevor Bryan of America was defeated by the highly-regarded young heavyweight contender last time out for the WBA “regular” heavyweight title.
This belt belonged to Browne six years ago when he was undefeated.
He was, however, stripped after a positive drug test.
Since then, Dillian Whyte, Dave Allen, and Paul Gallen have all defeated him by knockout.
However, in an amazing turnaround, the 43-year-old defeated Junior Fa by knockout in his most recent battle in June.
Despite this triumph, the BBBofC has determined that he is ineligible to take on Dubois, and many supporters seem to concur with this ruling.
Tyson Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion, is one person who disagrees.
On Thursday, Fury posted a video of Browne’s tirade on the matter on his Instagram story with the remark, “Let the man fight. Bernard Hopkins was 50 while Luis Ortiz is 55. 43 is just a puppy.
And given that 64-year-old Steve Ward continued to compete until August of last year, Fury might have a point.
The Australian provided his account of what happened in the video.
“So here I am, getting amazing news about perhaps fighting,” Browne remarked.
“I concur; Daniel wants a fight. returning to a WBA title fight.
“Finally having another opportunity to compete for the WBA’regular’ championship.
The British Boxing Board of Control won’t sanction the fight because I’m too old, is all I’ve heard recently.
Despite the fact that I began boxing at the age of 32 and had no amateur experience when I became a champion at 36, I have just had two fantastic knockout victories.
“Junior Fa was eliminated in the first round. I presently have a top 15 world ranking with the WBA, an IBF regional title, and a WBA regional title, but I’m reportedly too old.
“So you finally learn that you can compete for a title, which is the best news imaginable, and some board says, ‘Oh no, he’s 43, he’s too old, we’re not going to authorise it.’
How tragic is that? Wow. It’s not like I’ve had my skull bashed in my entire career; I’ve only suffered three defeats.
How does this function? How precisely does this operate?
“The Australian man is humiliated once more.
“Money and politics are the issue with boxing. You get f***ed over if you lack the financial and political resources to support your claim.
“Unfortunately, that has been my entire career. I have been f***ed over by everyone in boxing my entire career.
