While the summer transfer market has been closed for almost three weeks, Jude Bellingham’s name keeps coming up in discussions about Liverpool’s potential transfers.
Throughout the transfer window, the Reds were reportedly interested in bringing the midfielder to Anfield. However, Borussia Dortmund held them and any other possible bidders at bay with a £100 million price tag. Despite a difficult start to the season due to numerous midfielder injuries, talk persists that Jurgen Klopp would make another run at the youngster in the offseason.
Given that Bellingham, at age 19, is rapidly becoming one of Europe’s top all-around midfielders, speculation regarding his future — whether it be in Germany or back in England — is certain to persist for the foreseeable future. Bellingham, Klopp, and others have all contributed to the ongoing dialogue, which I will summarize below.
The midfielder scored in Dortmund’s Champions League match against Manchester City last week and, speaking before the game, lauded his present club for the work they’ve put in, calling it “disrespectful” to look into any prospective moves away at this time.
“Bellingham remarked, “The club has done a lot for me, made me feel very welcome, and given me opportunities to develop even further when I first came.” It’s not respectful to ignore that and focus on the future. Truthfully, I haven’t given much consideration to it.”
The midfielder made these comments in May, through Ruhr Nachrichten BVB (via 90 min): “Now, my future is entirely up to me. I have faith that if I put up my best effort and rely on the support of those around me, I will succeed. When I first arrived, I was recognized as a promising young English import. To put it simply, the pressure was low. We had a successful first season. Not every game saw me starting; in fact, I sat on the bench and sometimes didn’t even make the lineup.
“As I’ve grown as a player this year, I feel like my contributions have been more significant in all but two games. Thanks to Dortmund, I was able to develop my skills to the fullest. Those that keep the din down around me and in the coaching staff deserve a lot of the credit. It allows me to concentrate solely on the task at hand, which is to win matches.”
Paul Robinson on Jude Bellingham:
“He is an incredibly talented footballer. He still has his best years ahead of him. He already has an unbelievable reputation. His charisma on the ball is something special. I love watching him.” #lfc [football insider] pic.twitter.com/GxceLdUMhY

The Liverpool manager has been asked about midfielders all summer, but he made it clear in July that the team was not likely to add any new players to that position. He did, however, suggest that the “only problem” with Bellingham is that he is unavailable.
To clarify, Klopp said, “no” when asked if the club was aiming to add a midfielder. “Nothing seems likely to occur in the middle of the field, but everything is possible. If someone approaches you and says, “I want to go,” what should you do? We need to chat [about new players] if nobody has approached me about it before. But if things continue as they are, could you explain why
It’s something we can get through together. From what point do you wish to embark? That means Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Milner, Keita, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Identify the type of player we’re lacking and please explain why they’d be an asset. One who is offensively minded, is 1.95 feet tall, and rushes into the penalty area to head balls in? Fine, excluding that!
Adding on his remarks on Bellingham, Klopp said: “The first issue with him is that he is not currently available. There’s only one little thing: that player can’t hit. The Reds midfielder had nothing but admiration for his England teammate back in March.
“Since everyone else seems to accomplish it so rapidly, I try to refrain from giving players undue praise, especially when they’re still young. And I must say that I am rather impressed “Mr. Henderson told SPORTbible.
“His style of play appeals to me. Most importantly, I enjoy interacting with him because of his unique character. How he carries himself is admirable. Nothing except praise for him from me. He’s a terrific young man and an outstanding athlete; I have no doubt that he’ll continue to flourish as he develops. I’ve seen that he’s already showing signs of impressive maturity in his performance. He can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.”
This Monday, a writer for Sky Sports Germany hinted that Bellingham would be playing for the Reds next season. However, it’s possible that he won’t be wearing Liverpool’s red uniform. “I have no doubt that he will leave Dortmund in 2023, as he is an up-and-coming superstar player. Wherever he goes, it may be Liverpool or Manchester United. My gut tells me they are two clubs with a legitimate shot of landing him.
