After signing a four-year, $32.5 million contract extension in 2018, the right tackle was entering the final year of his deal. Havenstein’s signing provides the Rams with continuity after losing Andrew Whitworth, their starting left tackle, to retirement following the team’s Super Bowl LVI victory.

Havenstein joined Donald, Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Jalen Ramsey, and Bobby Wagner as captains this year, with the last two positions being new for Havenstein. Havenstein was asked about his contract the day before training camp began and responded that he was not worried about securing an extension and was instead focused on the game of football.

Havenstein, who was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, is one of two remaining Rams players from the team’s time in St. Louis before relocating to Los Angeles in 2016.

The St. Louis Rams selected Havenstein in the second round (57th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. Havenstein did not let up a single sack in his first season as a starter, despite starting all 13 games at right tackle.  Havenstein joined fellow Rams rookie Todd Gurley in being named to the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team.

Havenstein was originally slated to play right tackle, but after the acquisition of Andrew Whitworth on April 11, 2017, the plan was changed so that Robinson would play left tackle. However, Havenstein continued to start at right tackle for the Rams in the early stages of 2017 until Robinson was dealt to the Detroit Lions.
