Tuesday night’s Dallas Mavericks victory over the Golden State Warriors, the defending champs, was a real nail-biter, as Luka Doncic put on yet another display. Once again, Doncic was in charge of the Mavericks, defeating Stephen Curry and company with a 40-point triple-double.

The words to describe Luka Doncic are running out, but his outstanding performance on Tuesday night merits even higher praise. This is especially true when you consider that Doncic is currently edging closer to Dirk Nowitzki’s title as the Mavs’ GOAT.

After exploding for 41 points against the Warriors, Luka has now played in as many 40-point games as the legendary Dirk Nowitzki:

You did read that correctly. Now that both Doncic and Dirk have experienced 40-point games in their careers, they are tied. Dirk Nowitzki is very adored by Mavs supporters and is expected to remain at the top of their list for all time. But you have to admit that Luka Doncic is the only player who is capable of unseating Dirk as the Mavericks’ GOAT.

This idea was amply demonstrated by Doncic’s performance against another GOAT, Stephen Curry, on Tuesday night. The best part of it all is that Luka Doncic has only just begun.
