United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Michael Edwards, the former Liverpool sporting director, in order to get an advantage in the upcoming transfer window.
For the Reds’ recent success, Edwards has been given a lot of praise. The club has won four major trophies in the last four years: the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, and many other players have been brought in by Edwards, who has been in charge of the recruitment department.
Romelu Lukaku’s £97.5m move return to Stamford Bridge was a significant failure for Chelsea’s recruitment department in recent seasons. Despite adding Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane, Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League last season.
There are reports in The Daily Mail today asserting that “several sources” have told them that “the new-look Old Trafford regime as they continue to restructure their transfer staff” is interested in Manchester United midfielder Michael Edwards.

The Daily Mail, citing United’s interest, adds: Because of his ties with arch-rivals Liverpool, we don’t know whether Edwards is interested in joining United. Because of his success at Liverpool, it’s not hard to see why Manchester United is interested in Edwards.’
Moreover, Edwards’ departure from Liverpool has been impressive, as the club sold Philippe Coutinho for £146 million to Barcelona and received large fees for players like Rhian Brewster, Dominic Solanke, and Jordan Ibe who had featured very little for the Reds’ first team.
The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea has ‘approached Liverpool’s former head about becoming their new sporting director,’ indicating that the Blues like what they see.
According to the Daily Mail, the story goes on: Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital is said to have discussed the prospect of elevating Edwards to an executive role in the club’s recruitment department following the resignation of long-serving director Marina Granovskaia.’
